Best practices for teaching science students to collect data in the age of big data

STEAM 21st Century Skills reThinking Numeracy

Data is now the world’s most valuable commodity.

Are your students learning to work with raw data?

In the age of big data, it is increasingly important to understand how data formatting and manipulation can be the difference between uninterpretable noise and clear insights. This session will focus on the principals of Tidy Data which are quickly becoming the industry standard for science and industry. In this active workshop participants will work with messy, real-world datasets and learn shortcuts that their students can take to tidy them up for easy visualization and deep insights. Participants will learn best practices for digital data sheets that will complement the traditional lab activities that teachers know and love while benefiting students in science, business, and beyond.
